What You Do Best!

Lots of people can be good at lots of different things.  Renaissance men, (or women) if you will, are certainly out there, but I think for the most part people should stick to what they do best and really hone in on, to be the best they can be at that.  Which is exactly why Jessica Simpson should stay away from the sets of lame romantic comedies and say "NO" to any future reality TV show ideas.  And I'm no fan of the hair extensions, shoes or other threads and accessories she slings (but perhaps I'm alone on that).  And I like her.  She's a very pretty, GOOD singer!  Isn't that enough to work on?  Why does she need to torture herself with embarrassing acting perfomances and sad reality TV ratings?  Her newest bomb The Price of Beauty on VH1 (speaking of stick to music, ahem!) raked in a sad one million viewers for its premiere Monday night.  Yikes!

I love acting but I know what I'm best at - comedy.  I don't chase down crime drama casting directors or spend hours learning how to street fight on camera.  Could I tackle other types of roles in films and TV?  Yes, but why?  I love being the wacky, funny, ditzy, sometimes violent and destructive characters I play.  And being the best I can at that is enough for me.  Getting paid for it would be good too...

Go With the Flo...

So I went into CAZT today for a role I'm too young for but I didn't care.  I've been audition starved long enough and was ready for an inconsequential dip in the fascinating process of auditioning.  Ahh!  Not putting it on my resume yet, but it went OK.

And my commercial agent was pretty insistent that I go to an OPEN CALL (insert long series of various gasps here) today.  Yep, you've probably heard on the radio or elsewhere that Flo from Progressive Insurance is looking for an assistant.  Sure, getting that job would be quite the jackpot, but that doesn't make up for the fact that it's a friggin' OPEN CALL!!!  I didn't have it in me to make the trip to Hollywood and Highland, so I busted out my Flip cam earlier today I uploaded my audition to be Flo's Assistant for Progressive Insurance.  Um, should I really be doing this?  Much less asked to perform such a task... by my agent?  Well, aside from this "audition", he's pretty damn good, so I'll shut up now.

Well, it's not terribly flattering or fabulous, but that's no reason not to share!  Here it is:

Ok, not a stellar on-track actor day, but I'm getting my legs back :)  And my ankle!  YAY!!

Calculating Success

On a day when LA holds its breath, waiting to hear "And the Oscar goes to...," I, very much unlike an actress,  spent the day tucked away in my office doing my taxes.  I'm holding my breath wait to find out "And the refund goes to..!"  But one biz-related bright point of this calculating, headachey day happened when I took a break to run to Blockbuster. There on the wall of new releases in the "B" section, I found two of my friends!  Jen Nikolaisen starring in Bundy: An American Icon, alongside Corin Nemec.  She plays Stephanie, the girlfriend of the famous serial killer.  Go Jen!  Then just to the left a bit, I saw America Olivo starring in Bitch Slap alongside Erin Cummings (another friend and amazing actress!) and Julia Voth.  America plays the kick-ass Camero, willing to stop at nothing to steal 200 million in diamonds from an underworld kingpin.  YAY for friends kicking ass in this crazy business!  Made my Oscar weekend.  That, and the fact that I don't have to add up receipts again for another 12 months or so.
